What are the Steps in the Cold Drawn Round Steel Production Process

1. Raw Material Preparation and Pretreatment
First, hot-rolled round steel that meets specifications is selected as raw material. The surface is cleaned and pickled or mechanically polished to remove scale, rust, and impurities to ensure a clean surface. The cleaned raw material is then annealed. By controlling the heating temperature and holding time, the internal structure of the raw material is adjusted, reducing hardness and increasing plasticity, preparing it for the subsequent drawing process and preventing breakage during drawing.
2. Drawing Forming
The pretreated round steel is fed into the drawing equipment, where a specialized die applies axial tension to the steel. Under the tension, the round steel slowly passes through the die aperture, gradually reducing its cross-sectional dimensions to the target specifications and increasing its length. This significantly improves surface accuracy. The die selection in this step is tailored to the final product requirements to ensure that the finished round steel meets standard dimensions and achieves a smooth surface.

3. Intermediate Heat Treatment
If work hardening occurs during the drawing process, resulting in decreased plasticity and increased hardness, intermediate heat treatment is required. Through appropriate heating, holding, and cooling procedures, internal stresses within the round steel are eliminated, plasticity is restored, and subsequent drawing steps can proceed smoothly. Heat treatment parameters must be adjusted based on the steel material and hardening level to ensure stable properties after treatment.

4. Finished Product Finishing and Quality Inspection

After drawing, the round steel undergoes finishing processes such as cutting and straightening to ensure that its length and straightness meet the final product requirements. A comprehensive quality inspection, including dimensional accuracy measurement, surface quality inspection, and mechanical property testing, is then carried out to ensure that the finished product meets the specified standards for size, surface smoothness, strength, and hardness. Only qualified products can be stored and released for sale.
