Cold Drawing Process of the Product

 
1. Raw Material Pretreatment:

Cold-rolled round steel billets conforming to AISI 1018 standards are selected. Surface oxide scale and rust are first removed by mechanical peeling or pickling to prevent surface scratches during drawing. One end of the billet is then rolled to a size smaller than the die diameter to ensure smooth die penetration. Meanwhile, the billet is inspected for cracks and a uniform composition to guarantee processing stability.

2. Lubrication Treatment:

After pickling, the billet is immersed in lime slurry or a special lubricant to form a uniform lubricating film. This process reduces friction between the die and the steel during drawing, minimizes die wear, and prevents surface scratches caused by work hardening of 1018 steel, laying a foundation for high-precision forming.

3. Cold Drawing Forming:

At room temperature, the lubricated billet is fixed on a cold drawing machine and pulled through a die with a preset diameter by traction force. Leveraging the cold plastic deformation characteristics of metals, the steel cross-section is reduced and the length is extended. The per-pass deformation is controlled as required, and multiple draws are conducted if necessary to enhance the tensile strength and surface hardness of 1018 steel.

4. Post-processing:

After drawing, the material undergoes low-temperature annealing at 600-650℃ to eliminate internal stress and restore partial plasticity. It is then straightened, cut to length, and the chuck scrap is removed. Finally, anti-rust treatment is applied. The dimensional tolerance of the finished product is controlled within ±0.1mm to meet precision machining requirements.

Quality Control and Inspection

 

Raw Material Control

Verify the chemical composition of hot-rolled billets to ensure that the carbon content (0.15%-0.20%) and manganese content (0.60%-0.90%) meet the 1018 grade standard, and prevent excessive sulfur and phosphorus content. Visually inspect the billet surface for defects such as cracks, scabs, and folds, and control dimensional deviations within allowable ranges to avoid affecting subsequent cold rolling precision.

Cold Rolling Process Control

Strictly control the rolling temperature within the room temperature range, and precisely adjust the mill reduction, rolling speed, and tension parameters to prevent uneven steel deformation caused by parameter fluctuations. Regularly calibrate the mill equipment, monitor roll system wear, and replace worn parts promptly to ensure rolling stability.

Dimensional Accuracy Inspection

Use an outside micrometer and roundness tester to inspect each batch. Outside diameter tolerances are controlled in accordance with the GB/T 702 standard, and the roundness error does not exceed 50% of the diameter tolerance. Use a straightedge and feeler gauge to check straightness, ensuring that the deflection per meter is ≤0.5mm to meet precision machining requirements.

Mechanical Properties and Surface Quality Inspection

Conduct tensile tests on samples to ensure a tensile strength of ≥370MPa, a yield strength of ≥220MPa, and elongation that meets grade requirements. Inspect the surface visually with a magnifying glass to ensure no scratches, oxide scale, decarburized layers, or other defects. Conduct hardness testing if necessary to ensure uniform performance.
